I'm interested in the fundamental details of how myosin turns the chemical
energy of ATP hydrolysis into directed motion. My current project
involves observing the motion of single myosin V molecules tagged with
gold nanoparticles. The gold particle serves a a very bright marker,
which allows us to watch the myosin walk along actin with sub-millisecond
time resolution. I also plan to use other techniques, notably protein
crystallography and computational modeling, to provide complementary means
of learning more about how myosin works. |
